"Acupuncture is an ancient healing art which we believe originated in China thousands of years ago. The aim is to balance the Qi energy which flows through the body – to and from the natural world outside.

Illness is caused when the flow of Qi is impaired – either by too much energy or too little – or even, sometimes, by both! The acupuncturist examines the pulse and tongue of the client and listens carefully to what he or she has to say. He will then make a diagnosis – and decide, in consultation with the patient, which acupuncture points to stimulate or sedate.

 Are the needles sterile?
All needles come in sealed sterile packs and are only used once.

 Are there any side effects?
Usually none except a welcome sense of well-being. Sometimes there is a feeling of relaxation and sometimes a surge of newfound energy. Strong emotions can be released-but most clients find this a positive experience.

 How does it work?
Acupuncture points lead directly via invisible pathways called meridians to the internal organs of the body. A person new to acupuncture may be surprised to find a headache treated by applying a needle to the foot or a bad back with a needle to the wrist.

When the needles are inserted the client will experience a rush of Qi, energies will balance and the clients will experience a sense of well-being and relief. Acupuncture works on the body, mind and spirit, so mental problems can be addressed as well as physical ones.

In fact the Chinese see no difference between the two.
